Über Schopenhauer: Stimmt mit Bertrand Russell nicht überein, wenn dieser sagt, »Schopenhauer’s doctrine of the primacy of the will has no necessary logical connection with pessimism«. Äußert sich zu Schopenhauers Schriften: »Schopenhauer has described life presenting itself as a work of the will with the most bitter and condemning world; he has called optimism ›wicked‹, and used furours adjectives on anyone who showed himself philosophically insensitive to the suffering in this world. He did not believe in any major possibilities for the improvement of this world, and here lies the basis of his dark political views and the reactionary traits – despite his humanism – of his philosophy.« Diese Philosophie sei in demselben Sinne pessimistisch, wie es die Erlösungsreligionen seien, hauptsächlich das Christentum, welches die Erde als ein Tal der Tränen bezeichne und alle Erlösung auf das Jenseits verweise.
