Über seine nicht ganz korrekte Eintragung im amerikanischen ›Who’s Who‹: »My correct name is Thomas Mann. Schriftst: is the abbreviatet form of the German word ›schriftsteller‹, meaning author or writer. The publishers of ›Who’s Who in America‹ evidently made a slight error in their efforts to designate me as a writer. To use the English idiom they have put the cart before the horse.«
