Thomas Mann an The Ambassador [of the Russian Embassy, Washington]

Bittet den Botschafter, seinem Brief vom 25.10.1941 an dessen Vorgänger, Constantine Oumansky, Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken. Auf seinen Wunsch sei der Brief dem scheidenden Botschafter nicht nachgesandt worden, sondern in Washington für den Nachfolger geblieben. Er habe Äußerungen und Reden des jetzigen Botschafters mit Interesse verfolgt: »you have always expressed in a perfect and striking fashion what was true and necessary, and have not restricted yourself to the feeble and pernicious half-heartedness of the democratic statesman against the aggressor nations that has led the world into so much misery.« [s.
