Project

The 'Thomas Mann Letters' platform initiated by the Thomas Mann Archive of the ETH Library in 2025 aims to document Thomas Mann's letters in a central location and make them digitally accessible. So far, more than 16,000 letters have been indexed on the platform.

Please follow the instructions for use and contact the editorial team if you have any questions.

Editorial office

The content is edited and continuously updated in cooperation with the Thomas Mann International network.

Data basis

The data made available online is largely based on the many years of research and pioneering work carried out by Hans-Otto Mayer (1903-1983) and Hans Bürgin (1904-1977) as part of their five-volume book edition of the 'Regesten und Register' of Thomas Mann's letters (S. Fischer, 1976-1987), in which Gert Heine and Yvonne Schmidlin were also involved. The digital use of the contents is on the initiative of the Thomas Mann Archive of the ETH Library (Zurich) and with the kind permission of S. Fischer Verlag (Frankfurt am Main).
